Pantone Color of the Year Puts Rare Gemstones Under the Spotlight

Pantone color of the year 2020 is a classic. The Classic Blue or  Pantone 19-4052, announces Pantone, is the color of 2020. So, while that announcement makes it obvious that we will see a lot of blue over the coming months, Pantone is very specific about the shade. It is the Classic blue, which, if you don’t know is the color of the sky at dusk.  The Classic Blue colour is described by Pantone as "a reassuring presence instilling calm, confidence and connection"

Classic Blue in Gems

So, what does this color of the evening sky means in fashion? It means that 2020 is going to be a year of dark blue fabrics and gemstones. In jewelry, gems that are seen to rise to popularity following this announcement are Blue Sapphire, lapis lazuli and Iolite. In the reserve of precious and semi-precious gemstones, these are the few stones that occur in the exact classic blue shade as Pantone has specified.

Lapis Lazuli, the Unforgettable Blue Gem

Blue is not exactly a rare color in gems, but Classic blue is in fact an uncommon sight. Borne exclusively by Lapis Lazuli, the color is bright and stunning.

Lapis Lazuli is a metamorphic rock that has found a central place in gemstone jewelry. Coveted for its rich blue color and solid cabochon form, Lapis Lazuli of the highest grade match the preciousness of some top of the line gems in the market.

The stone has a solidity which gives the blue color a richness that makes it quite a sight. Up close, the stone is speckled with gold grains which is caused by the presence of pyrite in the crystal. That gives the stone a primary blue color and sparkling golden sheen.

Lapis Lazuli and Iolite Jewelry Trends, 2020

With classic blue being announced as the color of the year late in 2019, jewelry trends have already started to surface. Already, we are seeing Lapis Lazuli and Iolite jewelries in popular galleries.

Ornaments like tear drop earrings, rings and pendants beset with these two varieties of stones are already taking over the online collections. New designs are arriving in the stores every day. Already, the buyers have a vast collection to pick from, but the options are likely to proliferate substantially in the coming months.

Sundari Jewellery has a bourgeoning collection of blue gem jewelries in which these two stones are cardinal.
